Tunis, September 20 (TAP) - The Ministry of the Environment, on Friday, called on citizens to spend an hour on Saturday, September 21 2024 helping to clean up the areas around their homes, workplaces and towns. This call comes as part of the celebration of 'World Clean-up Day', which falls on September 20 each year, and is part of the Ministry's programmes to improve the quality of life. An operation will also be carried out in coordination with the Tunis municipality to remove demolition and construction waste from the “Boulevard 9 avril” in Tunis. The United Nations General Assembly, at its 78th session, unanimously adopted Resolution 78/122 proclaiming September 20 as 'World Clean-up Day'. The resolution invites all Member States, the United Nations system, other international and regional organisations, and other stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector and academia, to observe World Clean-up Day through activities aimed at raising public awareness and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) supports the celebration of the Day. Over the years, many national, regional and local governments and communities around the world have organised clean-up activities. Clean-ups serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility to preserve and maintain a clean and healthy environment, and to manage waste and resources sustainably. |
