(TAP) - The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) registered a decrease in the number of party lists for the 2019 legislative elections against independent lists, in comparison with the 2014 elections, said ISIE president Nabil Baffoun.

ISIE will have to examine the files of the applications for the legislative elections until August 6th, said Baffoun during a meeting with parties and representatives of civil society dedicated Tuesday to the announcement of the schedule of the early presidential election.

In comparison with the previous legislative elections, the number of party lists decreased from 812 to 605 lists in 2019. In contrast, the number of independent lists increased to 643 lists against 414 lists in 2014.

After the last ISIE office in Montreal closed its doors on Monday around 11 pm, ISIE offices within Tunisia and abroad received 1592 candidate lists including 596 party lists, 190 coalition lists and 707 independent lists. For electoral districts abroad (6), the total number of candidate lists is 187 lists (compared to 111 in 2014), including 90 partisan lists, 33 coalition lists and 64 independent lists.

In 2014, the total number of candidate lists within the country was 1,393, increasing to 1,405 lists in 2019.

10 parties submitted lists in all constituencies within the country, Baffoun said, 175 parties submitted a single candidacy in one of the constituencies and 25 parties submitted nominations in more than one constituency, while 10 political parties did not apply at all.

The initial schedule stipulates that the legislative elections should take place on October 6, 2019 at home and on October 4-5 abroad.
