"Brotherhood" only Tunisian and Arab short film at official BSFF 2019 competition

(TAP) - The Tunisian fiction short film "Brotherhood" by Meryam Joobeur has been selected for the official competition of the 22nd edition of the Brussels Short Film Festival (BSFF) to be held from April 25 to May 5, 2019.

The Tunisian film will compete for the five prizes of the Brussels Short Film Festival: the International Grand Prix, the Jury Prize, the Audience Prize, the Male Performance Prize and the Female Performance Prize.

Being the only Tunisian and Arab film competing, "Brotherhood" appears in a list of 62 works selected from nearly 4,500 at the beginning and coming from 31 countries: Croatia, Brazil, Switzerland, Greece, Colombia, Iran, Turkey, United States of America, Sweden, Portugal, Canada, Germany, Ghana, Australia, Hungary, Netherlands, Bosnia Herzegovina, Italy, Norway, Norway, United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Finland, Costa Rica, Spain, Kosovo, Belgium, Romania, Poland, Venezuela and France.

The Tunisian short film "Brotherhood" by Meryem Joobeur has won several awards since its release in 2018: leTanit d'Or for the short fiction film of the 2018 Carthage Film Festival (JCC), the special mention of the jury of the 41st edition of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival (February 1 to 9, 2019 France), the "Youssef Chahine Prize for the best short film" of the 40th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (November 20-29, 2018), the CinemaXXI Prize for the short and a special mention from the jury of the 24th edition of the Rome Euro-Mediterranean Film Festival "Le MedFilm Festival" (November 9-16, 2018)

and the Best Short Film Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, Canada) held from September 6 to 16, 2018.

The Brussels Short Film Festival is an annual Belgian short film festival that takes place at the end of April and beginning of May, every year since 1998.

The winners of the Grand Prix of the international and national competitions are considered in pre-selection for the Oscars in the category of best short fiction/animation film.
