Tunisian Film Festival: "Dachra," "Fatwa" and "Look at Me" most awarded films

(TAP) – The second edition of the Tunisian Film Festival revealed on Saturday night at the Opera House its awards in the presence of Minister of Cultural Affairs Mohamed Zine el Abidine, several political personalities and artists of the Tunisian scene.

As a tribute to the Tunisian cinema and its filmmakers, 35 Tunisian films produced between 2018 and 2019 competed in this second edition.

Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud’s “Fatwa” film that received 4 awards, Abdelhamid Bouchnak’s “Dachra” (4 awards) and Nejib Belkhadhi’s “Look at Me” (4 awards) were the most distinguished films during this edition (June 10-15).

Here follows the list of the awards:

Feature Film competition:

- Best Artwork: Nejib Belkadhi for “Look at me”

- Best Filmmaker: Abdelhamid Bouchnak for “Dachra”

- Best Production: Ibrahim Letaief for “Porto Farina”

- Best Scenario: Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud for “Fatwa”

- Best actress: Yasmine Dimassi in “Dachra”

- Best Actor: Ahmed Hafiene in “Fatwa” and Nidhal Saadi in “Look at Me”

- Best Actress in Supporting Role: Sarah Hanachi in “Fatwa” and Mona Mejri in Mohamed Ben Attia’s “Weldi”

- Best Actor in Supporting Role: Mohamed Sayari in “Porto Farina”

- Best Music: Selim Ben Salah for “Look at Me”

- Best Costume: Basma Dhaouadi for “Porto Farina”

- Best Editing: Ghalia Lacroix and Malek Chatta for “Look at Me”

- Best Decor: Rahma Bjéoui for “Fatwa”

- Best Image: Hatem Nechi for “Dachra”

- Best Sound Editing: Aimen Toumi for “Dachra”

- Honorary Award/Diaspora Award: Actress Aicha Ben Ahmed

Short Film Competition:

- Best Short Film: Meryam Joobeur’s “Brotherhood”

- Best Animation Film: Mustapha Taieb’s “The Symphony of Life”

- Special Jury Award: Kaouther Ben Hnia’s “Sheikh’s Watermelons”

Documentary Film Competition:

- Special Jury Award: Nasreddine Shili’s “Subutex”

- Best Documentary Production: Erige Sehiri’s “Railway Men”

- Best Documentary: Hiba Dhaouadi’s “Girl of the moon”

The jury awarded a special mention to two documentaries, namely Ridha Tlili’s “Thirsty Tunisians” and Hajer Nefzi’s “Ghzela.”

At the closing ceremony, the Culture Minister pointed out the State’s willingness to support the Tunisian film production, announcing that consultations about the film production bonus are underway to double the subsidy granted to the film sector from 4 million dinars to 8MD.
