14th Hergla Film Festival celebrates Tunisian, Italian animation filmmaking

(TAP) – The 14th edition of Hergla Film Festival, due on August 19-22, will be held under the theme "Hergla, Capital of Tunisian Animation Cinema." The Sicilian animation filmmaking will also come under spotlight.

The present edition will pay tribute to pioneers of this genre, said Artistic Director Mohamed Challouf. Forty movies will be shown

The opening ceremony will be attended by a number of guests, including Tunisian filmmakers Zouhaier Mahjoub, Ezzeddine Harbaoui, Mustapha Taieb, Nadia Rais, Lotfi Mahfoudh, Ahmed Bennis, Nacer khémir and Mohamed Abdennadher. Seven Tunisian films produced between 1967 and 2005 will be screened.

Tunisia-born Italian actress Claudia Cardinal will attend the closing ceremony, Challouf added.

This annual event will be held with the support of the Cultural Affairs Ministry, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunisia and TV5 Monde channel.

A tribute will also be paid to Sicily’s animation films as a set of short films will be screened on August 22 with the support of the Italian cultural Institute of Tunisia and in collaboration with the Filmoteca Regionale Siciliana and Animaphix International Animated Film Festival of Palermo.

Two meetings are on the agenda to debate the current situation and prospects of animation filmmaking in Tunisia, with the participation of filmmakers, critics and academics.
