(TAP)- The Association Vigilance for Democracy and Civic State said Friday that the Najiba Hamrouni North African Award for Journalism Ethics was granted to the collective platform of citizen journalism "Nawaat."

The award pays tribute to the former president of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists for continuing her uncompromising fight throughout her professional and activist career for the respect of press ethics.

Personalities from the fields of academia, culture, media and human rights took part in the voting process. The result of the vote count recognised Nawaat as the recipient of the Najiba-Hamrouni Prize for 2020.

The association Vigilance had urged the aforementioned personalities to take into account the code of ethics of Tunisian journalists and the World Charter of Ethics for Journalists in electing the most accurate, objective, impartial and independent media and journalists men and women with regard to the spheres of influence of the political and financial power as well as those who are most respectful of human rights and consecrate the civic and democratic institutions of the State.

The personalities who voted for Nawaat pointed out that the citizen journalism platform has distinguished itself since its creation in 2004 by its independence and respect for the ethical and professional rules of the profession, not to mention the ability of the working team to address and deal with issues relating to human rights, the rule of law and good governance with courage and professionalism.

"Nawaat is distinguished by a clear editorial line with diversified content and a permanent interest in ways to preserve fundamental freedoms, fight against corruption and the process of media reform in Tunisia," they underlined.
