(TAP) – The construction of the Baloum Dam (delegation of Kalaa Kebira) will have to be completed in the year 2021, announced Abdallah Rabhi, Secretary of State for Water Resources and Fisheries.

In a statement to TAP after a working session held Tuesday at the headquarters of the governorate of Sousse, the official said that the progress rate of work has reached 30%.

He added that the dam will be linked to that of Siida (governorate of Manouba) through the establishment of water transfer equipment.

This work will mobilise 790 million dinars granted by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), he said.

The Baloum dam, whose storage capacity is estimated at 28 million cubic meters of water, will cover the anticipated deficit in the water supply of Greater Tunis, the Sahel, Cape Bon and Sfax until 2050.

Rabhi, on the other hand, announced the start of the study on the development of the fishing port of Sousse.

During the working session, the participants decided to set up a regional plan of action for the exploitation of the hydraulic resources treated in the new sanitation station of Sousse Hamdoun.
