(TAP) – Tunisia is poised to jump 10 to 15 spots in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business 2020 if the draft horizontal law to stimulate investment and improve the business environment is passed before the end of April, said Minister of Development, Investment and International Co-operation Zied Laadhari.

An expedited consideration of the bill will be requested as soon as it is approved at a cabinet meeting, the minister Friday told the media on the fringes of a workshop held by the ministry to shed light on this draft law.

MPs are now aware of the importance of this bill in helping Tunisia improve its score in several global rankings and boosting investment.

Key reforms need to be undertaken to help Tunisia feature in the global top 50 in business climate by 2021. Tunisia climbed 8 spots in Ease of Doing Business after lagging behind for 6 years.

The workshop, attended by legal and financial experts, will focus on the first draft of this piece of legislation, Laadhari said.

The bill includes several provisions aimed to simplify procedures, improve the governance and transparency of commercial companies and ease the tax burden.
