Tunisia, US sign agreement to improve tax compliance

(TAP) – Tunisia and the United States signed on Monday in Tunis an agreement to improve international tax compliance and mutual cooperation in the taxation field.

Inked by Finance Minister Ridha Chalghoum and US Ambassador in Tunis, Donald Blome, the agreement stipulates particularly that both governments must obtain and exchange information on the accounts to be disclosed as well as the application of Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), regulating the principle of reciprocity in the exchange of information and ensuring their transparency.

Chalghoum said that this agreement will ensure sharing of tax and financial information. It will enable economic operators in both countries to increase tax transparency and combat tax evasion.

He added that this agreement is part of the consolidation of international transparency in the fight against tax evasion and money transfer.
