Tunisair's passenger traffic drops 26.4% in August 2019

(TAP) – The air traffic of national carrier Tunisair, all activities combined, declined 26.4% to 374,285 in August 2019 from 473,120 in August 2018.

According to data issued by the national carrier on Monday, the decline is mainly due to “the early cancellation of over 750 flights during the summer months.”

Tunisair further announced that the regular and charter traffic also dropped by 16.2% and 32.1%, respectively.

The passenger load factor in all activities also fell 3.2 points from 77.2% in July 2018 to 74% in August 2019.

In connection to markets served by the national carrier, “Middle Eastern countries with 8.6% of passenger traffic grew 6.5%.”

However, North America (Montreal) with 2.4% of passenger traffic saw their passenger figures drop by 4.3%.

European countries (77.2% of passenger traffic) also posted a 16% decrease and African countries (11.9% of passenger traffic) edged down 30.1%.

Tunisair also announced the improvement of its flights’ punctuality to 36% in August 2019, against 32% in August 2018.

The national carrier further noted a "45% drop in the number of flights with a delay of over 3 hours.”
