(TAP) – Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Mohamed Ali Toumi said at a meeting with United Kingdom ambassador in Tunis Louise de Sousa Tuesday the ministry has developed a health protocol specific to the tourism sector to reassure the world that Tunisia is ready to gradually welcome tourists.

This would be part of comprehensive prevention and depending on the health situation of each country, he added.

The Minister expressed his wish to expand cooperation with the British side in the field of tourism.

The British ambassador said Tunisia is successfully coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is reassuring to the world, especially the UK, de Sousa pointed out. The health situation in Tunisia is stable and the scheduling of the return of British tourists is possible, especially with the presence of a health protocol that will ensure the safety of both tourists and Tunisians, she added.

She also emphasised the specificity of British tourists who seek secure destinations and other forms of non-traditional tourism, such as cultural and history-related tourism.

She acknowledged the efforts made by Tunisia to facilitate the repatriation of British citizens in Tunisia in the best conditions.

Tourists are satisfied and expressed their desire to return to Tunisia as soon as health conditions improve.
