(TAP)– Over €40 million (127 million dinars) have been mobilised to implement a connectivity project for more than 3,000 schools, said Minister of Communication Technologies and Digital Transformation Mohamed Fadhel Kraiem, Thursday at a webinar on the theme "The digital sector post COVID-19, issues and challenges."

«The project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank (WB), will be carried out over at least two years.

The aim is to ensure equal opportunities to benefit from distance education, especially since this matter posed problems during the COVID-19 crisis.

Out of 6,500 schools, 10% do not have an internet connection.

The rate of fixed internet connection at homes is insufficient, i.e. 52%.

"The school connectivity project allows us to accelerate the very high-speed internet development project, which is very costly," Kraiem said.

Connecting a school in an eccentric zone with a high-speed internet makes it possible to generalise the connection to several homes and institutions in this region," he added.
