(TAP) – Youth for Climate Tunisia movement urged Sunday the government to put in place necessary strategies to upgrade infrastructure considering adverse weather conditions.

There is also need to provide necessary means of transport for students and educational staff, the movement said in a press release.

The State's "silence" regarding deaths reported in the latest torrential rains which battered several regions and "failure" to respond effectively to climate change are decried.

The movement deplored the lack of a real political will to improve infrastructure and work out a plan to adapt to the adverse impact of climate change.

"Instead of being a blessing, the rainy season in Tunisia has become a curse," Youth for Climate Tunisia said. Fragile infrastructure is to blame for vulnerability to floods.

Six people, including two children aged 4 and 10, died as heavy rains hit several regions in the country over the last week, the Civil Protection said.
