(TAP) - Tunisia, on Tuesday, signed 2 financing agreements with the German Development Bank (KfW), at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad.

The agreements, worth €132.5 million, are directed to the Flood Storage and Protection Programme and the Energy Efficiency Programme for Public Buildings.

An amount of €111 Million is granted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries to carry out the Storage and Flood Protection Programme.

"This programme contributes to the development of rural areas by mobilising drinking and irrigation water," said KfW Project Officer in the Water Sector Simone Cremer.

The Storage and Flood Protection Programme also aims to protect the population and infrastructure in the upper Medjerda valley (Algerian border - Sidi Salem dam) against floods.

A €5 million sum is earmarked to finance the services provided within the framework of this programme, said the KFW office in Tunis.

€15 million is granted to the National Agency for Energy Management for the Energy Efficiency Programme for Public Buildings such as education, higher education, health and sports facilities.

"This Programme is an opportunity for the Tunisian government to make energy savings, achieve its energy policy objectives and strengthen its energy efficiency strategy," said KfW Project Manager in the Energy Sector Miriam Quell.

It will help save over 20 GWh/year and reduce emissions to about 11,500 t CO2 per year. An additional €1.5 Million is allocated to mobilise technical assistance within the framework of the programme.

These agreements are signed by KfW on behalf of the German Federal Government.

The German bank supports reforms, infrastructures and financial systems for socially equitable and environmentally friendly economic growth in developing countries.
