(TAP) - The growth rate of loans to the economy edged down to 5.7% in January 2021 (year-on-year) against 6.8% in December 2020, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) said in a note on economic and monetary indicators for April 2021, released on Monday.

This is due to the drop in loans for professionals (+5.3% against +7.2%), caused by a 3.2% fall in short-term loans, against +0.5% in December 2020, the BCT explained.

However, the growth rate of personal loans edged up to 6.7% against +5.8% in December 2020, causing an increase in consumption and housing loans by 8.9% (against +7.6%) and 4.2% (against +3.8%), respectively.
