(TAP) - A 10-point economic rescue plan was presented by the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) on Friday.

The plan focuses on improving the general business climate, more particularly, boosting investment and reforming public institutions, while stressing the need to review a number of articles of the Constitution and hold a national dialogue.

It is meant to help Tunisia overcome its economic crisis, while laying emphasis on work, unlocking production sites, increasing exports and boosting economic diplomacy.

The UTICA called for finding solutions to Tunisia's indebtedness, reviewing the subsidy policy and shifting it towards those who are in need for it without marginalising vulnerable social groups and focusing on promising sectors, namely renewable energy.

It stressed the need to find solutions to the problems of funding projects due to the lack of liquidity and to State competition with private investors in borrowing operations. It also called for fighting parallel trade and integrating it into the formal economy.

The employers' organisation expressed disappointment at the political disputes between the various decision-makers in the country, saying the current situation requires awareness of the crisis that has been going on for months.

The UTICA expressed concerns over the increasing number of deaths caused by the coronavirus, calling for increasing vaccine numbers and investing in the manufacture of vaccines.

The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted all sectors including companies. As result, a large number of professionals have gone bankrupt, the same source said, adding this requires a rescue plan for companies.

The UTICA denounced the denigration campaign agaiinst the private sector that accompanied the recent price increase of commodities.
