(TAP) - The value of olive oil exports grew 69% to 670 million dinars in the first 2 months of the 2022/2023 campaign, compared to November and December from the previous campaign. The average export price also increased by 44%, according to the National Observatory of Agriculture (French: ONAGRI). In terms of volume, olive oil exports reached 45,000 tonnes, up 17.4% compared to the first 2 months of the 2021/2022 campaign, ONAGRI reported in its the monthly report «Figures of the month» released Friday. Olive oil production will decrease almost 20% compared to last season, to nearly 200,000 tonnes, CEO of the National Olive Oil Office ( ONH) Hamed Dali Hssan had told TAP in November 2022. The decrease in olive production is due to harsh weather conditions (lack of rainfall and rising temperatures). Yet, the increase in the price of olive oil will allow Tunisia to export lesser quantities of olive oil with the same value. The export volume amounts to 80% of domestic production, the same source said. |
