Tunis City awarded at Leadership for Smart Cities Summit in Kigali

(TAP) - Tunis city was awarded two prizes at the "Leadership for Smart Cities: Investing in Inclusive and Sustainable Cities of Future" Summit, held September 6-8 in Kigali (Rwanda).

A report compiled by a group of experts as part of a partnership between the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN HABITAT) and the Smart Africa ranked the city of Tunis among the top African cities with a good digital infrastructure and well-developed digital services for citizens, according to a Ministry of Technologies and Communication press release.

The prizes were handed over to Minister of Technologies and Communication Nizar Ben Neji, who partook in works of a session on the connectivity of future smart cities, during which emphasis was laid on the need to develop the digital infrastructure to ensure equal chances to access digital services.

The summit was attended by over 1,000 participants and 50 exhibitors and turned on ways to take up the challenges to convert African cities into smart and sustainable cities which make the most of technological developlment to improve the quality of the citizen's life.
