(TAP) – The decision by the U.S. Government foreign aid agency Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to carry out development projects in Tunisia was at the centre of a meeting that gathered, Wednesday in Tunis, Prime Minister Youssef CHahed and a delegation of the agency, led by Vice-President Kyeh Kim.

The US official, whose remarks were reported in a statement of the Prime Ministry, asserted that the choice of Tunisia is motivated by its commitment to achieve democracy and to adopt the rules of good governance and transparency in matters of investment.

She said during her working session with Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation Fadhel Abdelkefi, that the visit of the US delegation is part of the consultation programme with the Tunisian structures, noting that the intervention of the US agency in Tunisia will be gradual.

It will begin by identifying areas of intervention, in collaboration with the relevant public authorities, in order to achieve the expected objectives, she noted, and provide expertise and financial assistance, according to the progress of programmes and projects, according to a statement of the Ministry of Development, Investment and International Co-operation.

The delegation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation is making a working visit to Tunisia to lay the foundations for an integrated co-operation programme.

The objective of this programme is to help Tunisia reduce the poverty rate, through the achievement of economic and social development.
