(TAP) - Following Tunisia’s blacklisting as tax haven by the European Union on Tuesday, the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (CONECT), on Wednesday, drew the attention of the Tunisian authorities to the serious consequences of such a decision on the image of Tunisia, its attractiveness and the future of the relations of partnership and co-operation with EU countries and foreign donors.

These repercussions are all the more worrying as the revival of the Tunisian economy and the improvement of the country's economic and financial equilibrium remain largely dependent on Tunisia's ability to attract more investment and more foreign capital, it said in a statement.

CONECT draws the attention of the Tunisian authorities and all the parties concerned to the importance and urgency of engaging in dialogue with the European Union in a framework of responsible collaboration, safeguarding and strengthening co-operation and the strategic interests of both parties to ensure that adequate measures are implemented as quickly as possible.

CONECT recalls that Tunisia cannot really and in no way be compared to "tax havens" and that the country must start as soon as possible the reform of its tax system in order to achieve the objectives of transparency, good governance and equity in respect and compliance with the demands of the global fight against financial opacity and tax optimization.
