(TAP) - President Beji Caïd Essebsi has decided to declare a nationwide state of emergency for one month, from December 7, 2018 to January 5, 2019.

This measure comes after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on issues related to national security, the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement Wednesday.

The Head of Sate had decided to extend the nationwide state of emergency for one month from November 7 to December 6, 2018.

The state of emergency was first declared on Nov. 24, 2015, after a terrorist bomb on a presidential guard bus and prolonged several times.

The organisation of the state of emergency was examined at a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Beji Caid Essebsi on November 23, 2018

The meeting had decided to go further into the examination of the draft law, particularly with regard to safeguards and judicial review, before re-submitting it to the Cabinet meeting as soon as possible.
