(TAP) - Ettakattol (Democratic Forum for Labor and Liberties) National Council President Elyes Fakhfakh said Sunday his party will not field a candidate for the next presidential election scheduled for the end of 2019.

Speaking to TAP on the sidelines of a popular meeting of the party in the northern suburbs of Tunis on the theme "Tunisia needs parties of principles and programmes," he said "Ettakattol will seek to propose a candidate of the social-democratic family" hoping that only one will stand candidate.

"Ettakattol participated in the last presidential election in 2014 by a candidate, namely President of the Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar (2011-2014) who withdrew from the first round.

Regarding Ettakattol’s preparations for the parliamentary elections, Fakhfakh noted that it will participate with its lists in a third of the constituencies.

In this context, he said that the Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties is currently in consultation with some parties like Al Joumhouri "," Beni Watani "and" Echaâb", denying current consultations with "El badil Ettounsi "and the Democratic current.

Fakhfakh urged Tunisians to choose parties according to their principles, programmes and solutions, noting that Ettakattol has joined an advocacy campaign to encourage Tunisians to take part in elections and ensure that young people register on voter lists.

In this regard, Fahkfakh said the May 6, 2018 municipal elections were a shock, since the participation rate did not exceed 30 per cent, expressing his fear that this disaffection will continue in the next presidential and legislative elections.
