(TAP) - Nidaa Tounes executive bureau called for the formation of a new governing body, pending the next congress of the party.

The bureau members who propose a mixed composition comprising members of the political and executive bureaus as well as the constituent body, recommend to appoint founder of Nidaa Tounes Beji Caid Essebsi as president of the new body.

In a statement issued following its meeting on Monday evening, Nidaa Tounes executive bureau stresses the need to mobilise all party members, national figures and competences as well as civil society components and opinion leaders for the creation of a national and social front supported by popular and parliamentary majority. The aim is to complete the transition process, finish off the installation of constitutional authorities, undertake the necessary reforms and develop the Constitution.

The executive bureau, which has just launched an initiative to gather the Nidaa Tounes supporters, also called for the development of an ethical charter that commits the members of the party to defend public affairs.

In another connection, the executive bureau expressed its support for the national commission in charge of preparing the congress which should have the exclusivity in terms of organisation, distribution of membership cards, verification of applications and guarantee the freedom of debate and transparency of the delegates’ voting.

Executive Bureau member Mondher Belhaj told TAP on Tuesday, that the initiative to gather Nidaa Tounes supporters is a pressing need in light of the situation in the country and the splitting of the party.

"The gravity and the delicate nature of the situation in the country require the return of all those who contributed to the creation of Nidaa Tounes," he specified, adding that "the current state of the party does not allow it to take up the challenges posed on the national scene."

Belhaj said that the executive bureau members had affirmed at the meeting, the need to reunite the centrist political family and devise a joint program to complete the democratic transition process.

According to him, the party is still able to win the same results of the 2014 elections.
