(TAP) - "The People's Movement (Echaab) will participate in the next presidential election and will field a candidate in this election," said Zouheir Maghzaoui, Secretary-General of the Movement.

Speaking on the sidelines of the regular session of the National Council of the Movement that will run for two days in Monastir, Maghzaoui dismissed the possibility he will be the presidential candidate of the movement.

"The People's Movement will also participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections with partisan lists. It will be present in all constituencies, "he further indicated, without ruling out the possibility of forming alliances with other political parties.

In this regard, he said he has initiated negotiations with the Popular Front, the Democratic Current and all the opposition parties on this issue.

"We need to form a real electoral front that will stand as an alternative to power. Otherwise, the People's Movement will pose as a real alternative, facing the spiral of failure and decadence in which the country was dragged down,” he said.

In the same context, Zouheir Maghzaoui said he feared the establishment of an unhealthy climate during the next elections, especially since the previous elections saw electoral offences coupled with the influx of dirty political money pumped from inside and outside the country.

In this regard, he called on the Independence High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) to establish a favourable climate and to fight against any attempt to poison it so that the democratic process would not be deviated from its path.

In conclusion, Maghzaoui called on Tunisians to massively go to the polls, to punish those who were causing the deterioration of the situation in the country and to give the chance to new parties.
