(TAP) – Amal Tounés said an agreement under which Salma Elloumi was elected president and legal representative of the party was cancelled. The agreement, signed last June 8, also introduced amendments to rules of procedures.

This decision is due to "the lack of seriousness on the part of the document signatories and their decommitment," the party Saturday said in a press release.

The agreement provides for championing the basic principles of the party and maintaining three executive bureau members in the line-up of the new one. Local and regional structures of the party shall be respected and lists put forward for legislative elections need to include party members.

Secretary-General Emna Mansouri Karoui takes over again as party president, reads the press release. The party deemed unfortunate failure of attempts to bring views closer with some parties and political figures and reach a serious agreement with Salma Elloumi.

The party also said it is open to all political and social forces to bring democratic forces together.

Amal Tounes announced on June 8 the election of former Chief of Staff Salma Elloumi as president of the party and its legal representative.
