(TAP) – A ceremony on the 40th day since passing of President Beji Caid Essebsi was held at Opera House at the Tunis City of Culture, in the presence of family members of the deceased, government members, MPs, party leaders and representatives of national organisations and associations.

In his address on the occasion, Interim President Mohamed Ennaceur called the politicians to prioritise the homeland's general interest and to shoulder their responsibility to unite the Tunisians around a national programme for a better future for the next generations.

This is particularly necessary as the country is preparing to organise its first early presidential elections, he added.

Close friends of the late president were also invited to the ceremony which was marked by the screening of documentaries and testimonies of national personalities.

Following the ceremony, organised at the initiative of the Tunisian Association for the United Nations (ATNU) in collaboration with the Culture Ministry, Ennaceur went to the Jellaz cemetery where he recited the Fatiha in memory of late Beji Caid Essebsi.
