Request to have Ben Ali buried in Tunisia will be met if family wishes

(TAP) - A request to have deposed president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali buried in Tunisia will be met "if his family asks for this," a Prime Ministry source told TAP on Thursday evening.

The government will make sure the funeral takes place "under the best conditions," the same source said.

Earlier, official sources told TAP former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, 83, died after an illness.

Ben Ali, who ruled Tunisia from November 1987 to January 2011, passed away in Saudi Arabia where he sought refuge after December 17, 2010 - January 11, 2011 Revolution ousted him.

Ben Ali's lawyer Mounir Ben Salha told Reuters the funeral of the former president is scheduled for Friday in Saudi Arabia.
