(TAP) – Six presidents of national organisations called for initiating an investigation to bring to justice those behind the smearing and defamation campaigns against President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (INLUCC) Chawki Tabib and members of his family.

“The aim is to prevent the country from falling in a spiral of verbal and physical violence,” they estimated.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, the signatories affirmed “unconditional and in principle” support to Tabib and his family targeted by “deliberate and slanderous campaign.”

The signatories also denounced “the authors of the biased campaign and their link to the corrupted mafia, as well as their flagrant intentions to harm the organisations and authorities, such as the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and the INLUCC.”

They further warned against laxity towards such behaviours, estimating that the goal of these campaigns is to doubt the efficiency of fight against corruption and to hamper the efforts exerted in this regard.

The joint statement was inked by Bar President Brahim Bouderbala, UGTT Secretary-General Noureddine Tabboubi, UTICA President Samir Majoul, LTDH President Jamel Messalem, SNJT President Neji Bghouri and UNFT President Radhia Jerbi.
