(TAP) – The Free Destourian Party (PDL) calls that the oath taking of MPs will be carried out individually rather than collectively during the inaugural session of the second legislative term 2019-2024 of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), in compliance with Article 58 of the Constitution.

In a letter sent to the interim HPR speaker, the PDL specifies that Article 58 of the 2014 Constitution stipulates that “every member in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People shall, upon assuming their functions, swear the following oath: I swear, by God Almighty, that I will diligently serve the nation, that I will respect the provisions of the Constitution, and that I will bear full allegiance to Tunisia.”

According to the PDL, the HPR had announced on its official website that the MPs’ oath taking will be carried out collectively.

The inaugural session of the new legislative term is scheduled for November 13 and will include the MPs' oath taking and the election of the HPR speaker and the two vice-speakers.
