(TAP) – A meeting of Presidents of parliamentary blocs was held on Monday at the Bardo Palace, devoted to supervising the activities of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR).

The meeting, which was chaired by Parliament Speaker Rached Khriji Ghannouchi, was an opportunity to “discuss the code of parliamentary ethics and the need to identify the rules of common action”, said a statement issued following the meeting.

The presidents of parliamentary blocs considered that “the disturbances within the HPR have harmed the institution and the MPs, and must not recur.”

The meeting suggested creating a committee to promote different aspects of parliamentary action. It also shed light on the importance of speeding up the establishment of parliamentary committees.

The plenary session devoted to the examination of the 2020 finance bill, held Sunday, started with a 40 minutes delay as MPs of the Free Destiny Party (PDL) occupied the platform of the parliament speaker and his two vice-presidents, as well as the place reserved for the Prime Minister to present the government's statement on the 2020 state budget.

PDL parliamentary bloc has been staging an open sit-in in the plenary room of the Parliament since December 3, to demand an official apology from Ennahdha movement, against the backdrop of a statement by MP Jamila Ksikssi at the plenary session on the adoption of the 2019 Supplementary Finance Law, in which she called PDL MPs as “bandits and tramps.”

President of the PDL parliamentary bloc Abir Moussi, on Monday during a press conference held at the HPR announced lifting the sit-in.

The decision came after the HPR bureau denounced “the offensive remarks against the Free Destourian Party, as well as those made against Ennahdha MPs.
