(TAP) - The participation of Qalb Tounes party in Elyes Fakhfakh government is not a condition for the participation of Ennahdha movement in this government, Abdelkrim Harouni, chairman of the Ennahdha Shura Council, said Wednesday.

At a press conference at the party's headquarters held after the Shura Council, Harouni said the council mandated the movement's executive board and its chairman to continue negotiations with Fakhfakh to form the new government and make the final decision on whether or not to participate in the government.

Harouni said that the Shura Council decided to continue negotiations with Elyes Fakhfakh until the last minute before presenting the final formation to the presidency of the Republic unanimously.

According to Shura Council chairman, Ghannouchi will have a meeting on Wednesday with Elyes Fakhfakh, in charge of the formation of the government.

The final position of Ennahdha movement on whether or not to participate in the next government will then be announced, Harouni added, saying that Fakhfakh reacted positively to his party's conditions for resuming consultations.

Ennahdha demanded replacing the proposed minister for the communications technology portfolio, Lobna Jribi, with an independent figure and merging the ministries of environment and local affairs, he said.

He added that Fakhfakh has also initiated contacts with parties excluded from consultations on the formation of the government, referring to indirect contacts established with Qalb Tounes.

In addition, Harouni welcomed the role played by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), in bringing together the views of the parties concerned in order to reach a solution to this political crisis.

Regarding the constitutional debate in connection with the crisis of government formation, Harouni stressed that his party respects the interpretation of the provisions of the Constitution by the President of the Republic, denying the existence of a dispute between the institution of the presidency of the Republic and that of parliament.

He reiterated Ennahdha's position calling for the formation of a government of national unity, considering that the country's economic and social difficulties required national unity.

Harouni also stressed that Ennahdha wants to avoid holding new elections. "A democratic and constitutional solution that does not frighten us," he assured.
