(TAP) - President of the Republic Kais Saied had a telephone conversation Sunday with Spain's King Felipe in which he expressed sympathy and solidarity with the Spanish people amid the spread of COVID-19.

The Spanish monarch said he was "deeply affected by the call," reads a Presidency press release.

President Saied and King Felipe underlined the need for global coordination to take unified measures, particularly in the United Nations and the Security Council, for international peace and security, they said, need to go beyond their conventional meaning.

The steps taken around the globe were not sufficient and did not prove fruitful in containing the spread of virus, they also emphasised.

King Felipe voiced support for Tunisia's stance and praised it for raising the issue before the UN Security Council.
