Government members donate half of their April salary

(TAP) - Government members will donate half of their April salary to the 1818 Fund to combat the new coronavirus (COVID-19), it was announced at the Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh in Dar Dhiafa Wednesday discussed the latest developments in the health situation in the country, reads a statement from the Prime Ministry.

The Prime Minister presented at the beginning of the meeting's work all the thrusts of the national plan to combat COVID-19 and the decisions that have been taken in the health field, besides measures designed to curb the social, economic and security implications.

Fakhfakh recalled the decision of the National Security Council at its meeting on March 31, 2020 to extend the general lockdown period.

It was a recommendation by 15 experts in the field of health related to the fight against the new coronavirus, he pointed out.

The PM stressed the importance of this measure in controlling the spread of the disease and strengthening the achievements made in this area.

He emphasised the need to speed up the completion of the social measures taken for low-income people and the underprivileged social classes.

Fakhfakh said, in this context, additional measures are needed to further strengthen support to these groups and reduce their suffering.
