Nice Attack: Public Prosecutor's Office initiates investigation

(TAP) - The Public Prosecutor's Office at the judicial counter-terrorism division said it has initiated an investigation against any person who would be involved in a murder or terrorist crimes, following Thursday's knife attack in Nice, France whose perpetrator would be a Tunisian national.

"This lawsuit comes under Article 83 of the Organic Law on the fight against terrorism and money laundering," Mohsen Dali, deputy public prosecutor and spokesman for the Court of First Instance of Tunis, told TAP.

This law allows the Court of First Iinstance to examine terrorist crimes committed outside the national territory and against Tunisian persons and interests, he added.

According to the initial elements of the investigation, the assailant would be a Tunisian national, he said.

Dali added that the public prosecutor's office at the judicial counter-terrorism division has assigned the case to a specialised security unit for further research and investigation.

Three people were killed, including at least one with his throat cut, during a knife attack inside the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice Thursday. The perpetrator was arrested.
