(TAP) – The NGO Al-Bawsala, on Thursday, asked the Speaker of Parliament to clarify the dates of entry into force and end of the special measures applied to work in the House of People's Representatives (French: ARP).

The Parliament had approved by a majority of those present the extension of those measures at a meeting of the crisis cell on February 15, while the ARP Bureau meeting on February 18 had not ruled on the issue.

Al-Bawsala reminds, in a correspondence sent to the Parliament Speaker, that the special measures "affect citizens' right to access information and the right of journalists and representatives of civil society to access the Parliament,» and therefore "the principle of transparency," it said.

It, in this regard, invites the parliament's bureau to ensure transparency and to inform beforehand of its decisions regarding work according to the special measures imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Parliament approved in plenary on January 19, 2021 the adoption of special measures with 148 votes in favour, 1 against and 1 abstention.

The special measures are applicable for one month, renewable twice by decision of the Parliament's bureau, after approval by a two-thirds majority of the crisis unit.
