(TAP) - President of the Republic Kais Saied, on Wednesday, met with legal expert, Dean Sadok Belaid at Carthage Palace, said a Presidency statement.

The meeting tackled legal and constitutional issues, as well as the formation of a national committee to “establish the new Republic.”

Saied insisted that “participation is open to anyone who supports the July 25, 2021 process.”

This committee will be divided into two sub-committees: one dedicated to political and constitutional reforms, and a second to address economic and social reforms.

The committee will have a consultative role; it will rely on the outcome of the online consultation to put forward its proposals.

The national consultation, which ended on March 20, saw the participation of 500,000 citizens.

Saied, in a speech to the Tunisian people on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and Labour Day, announced that a committee will be formed to prepare the establishment of the Third Republic.

The work should be completed in a few days, in accordance with the presidential decree on exceptional measures.

Saied had specified that a sub-committee will be dedicated to the national dialogue, in which the four national organisations will participate, namely the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the Tunisian league for the Defence of Human Rights (LDH), the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), and the Bar Association.

Proposals will be presented in the form of a draft, which will be submitted to a referendum on July 25, 2022.
