(TAP) - Former Ennahdha leader Abdellatif Mekki on Tuesday announced the formation of his party "Action and Achievement" (Amal and Injaz), which he describes as both "conservative and social-democratic."

The party's constitutive congress was held on June 18, 2022.

Its political bureau comprises 22 members, including 7 women.

Its secretary general, Abdellatif Mekki underlined at a press conference that the creation of this party is "a response to the political and economic crisis in the country, caused by the constitutional coup."

The choice of the party's name indicates, he considered, a commitment to action and achievement and a refusal to take part in ideological conflicts.

The party will propose economic solutions for the prosperity of Tunisians, he promised.

Answering a question on the July 25 referendum, Mekki said that his party has chosen to "align itself with the position of the Salvation Front" which calls for a boycott of this deadline.

The party will, however, wait for the results of the referendum to decide on its participation in the next legislative elections in December.
