(TAP)- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi met Friday with Eric Falt who presented him with his letter of appointment as Director of the UNESCO regional Office in Tunis with residence in Rabat.
The minister praised the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation for its role in establishing peace and upholding the values of solidarity and tolerance among peoples as well as its keenness to secure the right to education for all. This in addition to fostering dialogue among cultures as a tool to combat violence and hatred.
Jerandi also hailed cooperation relations with UNESCO and said there is need to further boost and diversify them by means of aspeeding up the implementation of priority projects in education and culture.
Tunisia lends importance to developing the quality of education and integrating modern technologies in the education system, considering its role in economic and social prosperity.
Eric Falt said there is determination to keep cooperating with Tunisian agencies and institutions so as to promote UNESCO's programmes and activities in the country and meet the aspirations of Tunisians.
The UN official shed light, in this vein, on projects to encourage women in the fields of scientific research and develop a Maghreb guide on climate change and the management of water resources.
