(TAP) - President Kaïs Saïed, met Tuesday at the barracks of El Aouina, with security officials.

He emphsised the need to apply the law to all without discrimination and bring to justice those involved in the tragedy of the shipwreck off Zarzis.

The Head of State said it is unacceptable that some evoke any means or procedure to drag on cases and, therefore, enjoy impunity.

President Saied took the opportunity to highlight the role of the National Guard in the recent elections and its positive response to the people's demands to hold accountable those who committed crimes against the homeland and the people.

He also called on the 'worthy and honest" members of the National Guard and the judiciary to perform their mission to the best of their ability against "those who continue to plot conspiracies against the Tunisian people and the state."

We are, today, waging a battle of national liberation without mercy in order to preserve the state's institutions," he pointed out, calling for vigorous enforcement of the law against "sworn enemies of the state, the homeland and the people."

While pointing to the individuals who persist in blocking roads and rail lines, the President of the Republic said no one can claim any reason or argument to commit these acts. These perpetrators should no longer enjoy impunity, he said.

"Yes for the right to union, since it is a right recognised and guaranteed by the Constitution," said the Head of State, denouncing, in this regard, attempts to use this right for political purposes known by all.

Speaking about the tragedy of the shipwreck of a boat of irregular Tunisian migrants off Zarzis in September 2022, , the President said time has passed and the procedures still drag. All evidence suggest that this tragedy was an "ordered and planned" act whose victims are vulnerable people, he said

On December 7, 2022, in the same place, at the Barracks of El Aouina, the Head of State had called to "expedite the ongoing investigation into the case of the shipwreck off Zarzis."

On September 18, the people of Zarzis woke up to a tragedy when 18 people died in the sinking of a boat of irregular migrants off the local coast.

That tragedy sparked a large social protest in the city.
