Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs holds meetings with senior Japanese officials

Tunis, March 1 (TAP) - Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mounir Ben Rejiba, who is on a working visit to Japan, held meetings with several senior Japanese officials on Friday, according to a Ministry statement.

The Secretary of State is visiting Japan from February 27 to March 1, 2024, at the invitation of the Japanese side to participate in the VIP visit programme of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. It is also part of the follow up of Tunisia's expected participation in "Expo 2025."

The event will be hosted by the Japanese city of Osaka from April 13 to October 13, 2025.

The Secretary of State met with the Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs TSUGE Yoshifumi; the meeting reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and the aspects of cooperation in various fields.

Both sides expressed satisfaction at the dynamics of Tunisian-Japanese relations, especially through the timely holding of bilateral milestones, the exchange of visits between senior officials, as well as the coordination between the two countries on major international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Ben Rejiba also held a meeting with the Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry ISHII Taku.

The meeting discussed the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and ways to promote and develop it in priority sectors for both countries, especially in light of the reforms being carried out by Tunisia to stimulate growth, accelerate the pace of project implementation, and attract more foreign investments.

During a working session held at the Parliament headquarters with members of the Tunisian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Committee, the Secretary of State addressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy and friendship groups in both countries in boosting Tunisian-Japanese cooperation.

He affirmed Tunisia's commitment to continue the path of reform and enhance the rule of law and institutions.

Ben Rejiba, on Thursday, met with Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Naoki ANDO, to follow up on the implementation of Tunisian-Japanese financial and technical cooperation projects.

He also held a meeting with representatives from several Japanese companies investing in Tunisia, on Thursday. He took note of their opinions on ways to develop Japanese investments in Tunisia and to introduce them to the incentives approved by the Tunisian government to stimulate investment and remove some procedural and legislative obstacles that may hinder the progress of foreign investments, especially Japanese ones.

He also met with several officials involved in the aforementioned event, such as Commissioner-General of Expo 2025 Koji HANEDA, and Mayor of Osaka Hideyuki YOKOYAMA.
