Three soldiers killed, 9 injured in terrorist attack in Mount Semmama (medical sources)

(TAP) – Monday’s terrorist attack on National Army troops in Mount Semmama left three dead and 9 wounded, medical sources in the regional hospital in Kasserine told TAP.

A seriously wounded soldier underwent surgery to remove shrapnel that have hit different parts of his body and caused a fracture in the spine, while the rest of the injured suffered mere scratches and bruises.

They were kept under observation in hospital, one of the sources said.

According to security sources, clashes between units of the national army and terrorists continued until 17:00 at Mount Semmama.

The terrorist attack occurred around 9:00 am Monday near the area known as Aouled Ben Njah located near Mont Semmama, according to workers of a road construction firm in Mount Semmama escorted by soldiers who witnessed the attack.

Three soldiers were killed Monday and seven others were injured in the explosion of anti-tank mines at Mount Semmema in Kasserine on a construction site of a road they were securing, spokesman of the Ministry of National Defence, Colonel Belhassan Oueslati earlier told TAP.

The attackers made use of RPG rockets, grenades and machine guns.

He said that 6 soldiers sustained bruises and minor injuries. Only the seventh soldier was wounded by shrapnel but not seriously," Colonel Oueslati indicated, adding that no bullet wound was recorded.
