(TAP) – Some 75 Turkish companies are based in Tunisia with investments estimated at $1 billion and employing 1,600 Tunisians, Turkey’s Ambassador to Tunisia Ömer Faruk Doğan said at a press conference in his residency in Tunis.

He expressed hope to reach 100 companies by 2018.

He further stressed his country’s interest in the International Investment Conference, scheduled for November 29 and 30 in Tunis, noting that Turkey will be represented in this event by a high-level delegation.

Turkey is committed to strengthen bilateral co-operation in different economic fields, mainly agriculture, tourism, infrastructure as well as cultural, educational and university fields, he added.

Economic and trade relations between Tunisia and Turkey are governed by the terms of an agreement inked in November 2004 on the establishment of a free trade area, he said.

He added that the agreement that came into force in July 2015 has brought about a $1 billion worth of trade.
