(TAP) - A terrorist cell composed of eight members was broken up on Tuesday by the National Guard's units in Teboulba, Monastir governorate.

Members of the cell, aged between 32 and 47, are suspected of money laundering and belonging to a terrorist organisation.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior, members of the cell admitted to being "followers of the Takfiri current" and acknowledged "holding secret meetings in a mosque in Moknine" where young people were encouraged to join the terrorist organization of Ansar al-Sharia.

"Thirty bank checks, flyers and Takfiri books were seized," the source added.

The public prosecutor ordered all members of the cell to be held in police custody and opened a judicial investigation against them for "belonging to a terrorist group".
