Djerba Island prepares for selective sorting of waste at source

(TAP) – The three municipalities on the island of Djerba met on Wednesday to prepare for the launch of selective sorting of waste at source, with the aim of reducing its cost and volume.

Among the proposals put forward is the introduction of mandatory sorting at the hotel and restaurant level, as of January 2019, the establishment by municipalities of green containers for organic waste, blue for plastic and yellow for the rest and the ban on plastic bags on the island, from July 2019.

These proposals will have to be adopted by the respective municipal councils.

A sorting awareness campaign will be launched involving civil society.
