Sidi Bouzid: owner of Regueb Koranic school sentenced to one year in prison over polygamy

(TAP) - The owner of the Koranic school in Regueb (Sidi Bouzid governorate) has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined 200 dinars over "polygamy and illegal marriage" said spokesperson for the Court of First Instance in Sidi Bouzid Houcine Jerbi.

The court also sentenced the female companion of the school owner to 3 months in prison on the same charge.

The suspect is charged with several cases including illegal marriage and human trafficking.

He was arrested along with his female companion, following reports of several abuses and offences in the Koranic school.

The school was closed by the security units of Sidi Bouzid, in co-ordination with a special brigade of Tunis and the 42 students attending it were evacuated and placed in a specialised centre in Hammam-Lif where they are receiving psychological support.
