(TAP) - Work on the Tataouine solar power plant will begin within two weeks, Governor Adel Oureghui announced on Thursday.

This project will create economic momentum and provide jobs in the region, he said at a symposium held today in Tataouine on the role of renewable energy in development.

This solar power plant, which will be built on 20 hectares, will have a production capacity of ten megawatts. Its cost is estimated at 25 million dinars.

This project will be supported by the construction of a photovoltaic power plant in Borj Bourguiba with a capacity of 200 megawatts at a cost of 500 million dinars and another photovoltaic power plant in Beni Mhir, with a capacity of 50 megawatts and a cost of around 125 million dinars.

The project is being carried out by the Italian Hydrocarbon Company (ENI) in partnership with the Tunisian Petroleum Activities Company (ETAP).
