Municipal by-elections in Souk Jedid start

(TAP) - The partial municipal elections in Souk Jedid, Governorate of Sidi Bouzid started on Sunday.

Souk Jedid's municipal council was dissolved after the resignation of 11 city councillors last February.

Ten lists are running for the elections, including three party lists (Ennahdha, Democratic Current, and Tahya Tounes) and 7 independent lists.

A total of 13,361 voters are registered in the electoral constituency of Souk Jedid spread over 19 polling centres and 30 polling stations.

The number of seats to be filled in the municipal council is 18.

In the 2018 municipal elections in Souk Jedid, the turnout was 42% (or 5,555 voters).

The vote by military and security personnel for the Souk Jedid municipal council took place on May 25.

Only one office was set up at the municipality's headquarters. A total of 35 voters out of 261 registered participated in the vote (13.41%).

Chairman of the Independent Regional Electoral Commission (IRIE), Boujemaa Machi said the vote has started under ordinary conditions (it will run from 7:00 to 16:00).

However, he reported some complications in identifying the names of voters on the electoral register.
