(TAP) - At an extraordinary regional council held on Saturday in the governorate of Mahdia, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed ordered the implementation of a set of measures to reinforce the cultural action in the region and optimise its historical and civilisational specificities.

These measures concern the creation of an outdoor theatre in Mahdia at the request of the men of culture in the region, notably after the creation of the dramatic and stage arts centre and the intensification of theatrical production.

An additional allocation of 1 million dinars was decided in favour of cultural festivals, after the increase in the number of summer festivals to 25, organised throughout the governorate.

Chahed also called for the enhancement and development of archaeological sites, such as the El Jem amphitheatre, the Fatimid Fort, the old town of Mahdia, Borj Khadija in Chebba and several other sites.

The festivals held in the governorate of Mahdia have not been sufficiently supported in recent years, causing a decline in the artistic quality of the shows, in addition to the degradation of archaeological sites due to insufficient investment allocated to this sector.
