(TAP)- Twelve Tunisians were rescued on Tuesday by a navy unit, after a notice from a fishing boart that a boat broke down off East Attaya, Kerkennah Island.

They are aged between 18 and 45, including a 3-year-old girl in a critical condition, the Defence Ministry specified in a press release Wednesday.

These individuals had sailed on the night of July 6 through to 7 from Zarzis in the prospect of illegally crossing the maritime borders towards Italy.

They were transported to the Sfax naval base and handed over to the region's National Guard. The girl was taken with her mother to the regional hospital for first aid, the same source added.
