Djerba-Ajim hosts blue crab tasting day

(TAP)- Cooking demonstrations and a culinary competition topped the agenda of a blue crab tasting day held Sunday in Djerba-Ajim.

The event, which attracted a large number of spectators, was notably organised by the municipality of Ajim and the United Nations Development Programme.

It fits within a project to integrate blue crabs in local culinary traditions. The project tagets some 1,000 fisshermen and 80 women specialised in the collection of carpetshells.

Blue crabs, boasting a high nutritional value, are on the menus in tourist restaurants in the area. They are also exported to Asian markets.
